Graduate Support

Graduates are under increasing pressure to independently deliver high level veterinary services to clients regardless of their experience. Reduced clinical skills exposure through university coupled with increased client knowledge and expectations increase the probability of under-performance or even failure. This fast-tracks graduates to a lack of self-confidence performing large animal work.

Practices are working harder than ever to implement a supported transition to practice but inevitably time and finance hinder their ability to provide sustainable, proactive support leaving graduates susceptible to managing situations above their competency level.  This can result in loss of self-confidence, anticipatory anxiety for ambulatory work but also loss of client confidence in them as vets.

VSS believes proactive, structured post-graduate training and mentorship are essential for rural veterinary sustainability. Ensuring graduates can competently and safely carry out large animal ambulatory work not only builds their self-confidence but promotes client confidence in new veterinarians.

Accompanying graduates to large animal calls provides ample opportunity to teach, modify, guide and mentor, minimising exposure to situations unsuitable for inexperienced hands and promoting our graduate vets to clients.

VSS can provide this proactive support independently or through specific graduate programs, allowing you to work more efficiently and without interruption.
