On-site Graduate Support

Veterinary clinicians are all under significant time pressure and clinics are regularly understaffed. Graduates are required to get ‘up-to-speed’ quickly with varying levels of assistance and support however situations often arise where they feel obligated to perform skills above their competency level.  These scenarios set them up to under-perform or fail in front of valued clients and can create not only a loss of self-confidence but also client confidence in them as vets.

These outcomes drive client reliance on senior clinicians and prevent graduates from gaining adequate large animal experience. We believe this pattern contributes to an unsustainable future for rural veterinary practice, promotes burnout in senior clinicians and drives attrition from mixed animal practice.

VSS accompanies new grads on their farm visits to ensure they are competently and safely performing the large animal jobs they are being sent to.  Farmers are more at ease with a ‘training wheels’ vet when they know a senior clinician is on site to support them.  It avoids them entering situations they are not yet experienced enough to handle and allows their confidence and clinical and communication skills competences to grow and develop under a trained eye. And all whilst you continue to be able to work efficiently and without interruption.

VSS can work with your clinic in an ad hoc, regular fixed or intensive capacity to support and train your new graduates as they go about their large animal duties.
